What is the Word of God

  WHAT IS THE WORD OF GOD

The most popular, yet most controversial book ever published: The Holy Bible a/k/a The Word of God.

The bible scriptures that fill the pages of the book, are considered to be the inspired, infallible Word of God. We read in John, Chapter 1 Verses 1-5 and 14:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not…

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth.

THE BIBLE SCRIPTURES

Bible scripture, given to us through the Word of God, is designed to inspire, edify, encourage and offer hope to mankind. While some may not feel bible scripture verses are true that does not take away from its purpose and intention. The Lord said that His Word will not go out and return void.

In other words, because the Word was in the beginning, and became flesh – in the form of Jesus Christ – it will accomplish its work. The book of Proverbs, Chapter 19:21 says:

There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

BIBLE STUDY

Bible study is vital, for the Christian and non-believer alike. As in any righteous or “right” decision we make as humans, it only makes sense to study the Word of God before formulating a steadfast conclusion.

Numerous options exist to assist one study the Bible. There are personal, group, one-on-one, and online bible study. Reach out to a friend, pastor or other trusted person to get started on answering the burning question of many; “What is the Word of God?”

‘Lord, teach us to pray’

HOW TO PRAY

Jesus’ disciples realized the importance of prayer. They understood knowing how to pray to God would bring about a deeper relationship with Him, and peace to their lives. In the Bible, Luke, chapter 11:1, His disciples spoke to Jesus saying “teach us to pray.”

And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. ~~Luke 11:1

We find The Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13; part of which Jesus answered His disciples when asked “teach me to pray,”

And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. ~Luke 11:2-4

THE LORD’S PRAYER

An age-old tradition of mankind, yet how can we pray this way if:

  • OUR (religion does not concern ourselves with others and their needs);
  • FATHER (without showing this relationship in my spiritual walk);
  • WHO ART IN HEAVEN (if I am only concerned with this world and its ‘stuff’);
  • HALLOWED BE THY NAME (when we are not holy);
  • THY KINGDOM COME (when I truly do not accept God’s will and His sovereignty, just my own);
  • THY WILL BE DONE (if I am only going to follow my will/fleshly desire, or resent God’s will);
  • ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN (except I really am prepared to work in His kingdom now);
  • GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD (except I commit to seek it);
  • FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO TRESPASS AGAINST US (when I cannot forgive others);
  • LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION (when keeping myself around or involved in things that tempt me);
  • DELIVER US FROM EVIL (if I am not primed to do battle in the spiritual realm through prayer);
  • THINE IS THE KINGDOM (when I am not loyal or yielding to the King);
  • THINE IS THE POWER (if i cave to peer pressure);
  • THINE IS THE GLORY (after seeking my own glory);
  • FOREVER (if I am fearful of now and the future);
  • AMEN (except I sincerely mean whatever the cost, this I pray).

Daily prayer is vital to our relationship with the Lord. It sustains us in the storms and trials of life. Prayer keeps us submitted to God’s authority.

Have you asked the Lord, teach me to pray? He will answer.

Even great leaders make mistakes

WHAT WILL YOURS COST YOU AND OTHERS

Moses was a great leader. He had courage, faith and compassion. He worked for and loved the Lord. He loved God’s people.

The Bible reads in Deuteronomy 34:7 : “And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.” Moreover, in verse 10 it says: ” And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face.”

Wow-an untimely death or God’s wisdom?

The Lord told Moses on mount Nebo he would die there.

“Because ye trespassed against me among the children of Israel at the waters of  Meribah-Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because ye sanctified me not in the midst of the children of Israel. Yet thou shall see the land before thee; but thou shalt not go thither unto the land whcih I give the children of Israel.”  Deuteronomy32:51-52.

There is no record where Moses questioned God, or tried to reason with Him regarding his plight – he simply obeyed.

He blessed the tribes of Israel before ascending again to mount Nebo where he would “sleep” as his brother had before him in mount Hor.

I wept during my study of this passage today.  Searching my heart, considering if I would be able or willing to do the same. Whether a “leader” or not in God’s Kingdom, do we, as Christian’s find ourselves willing to obey all of God’s commandments. Or do we kick and scream about those things we “have” to do?

Are we guilty of failing to praise our Lord Jesus for everything He has given us?

While we live under a dispensation of grace as a result of Jesus’ death on the cross, we are not released  from “obedience” to God’s word. We all make mistakes, we all stumble and sometimes we fall.  Let’s get up and remember what all our great leaders and elders have shown us by example.  Let us live for the Lord with gladness in our hearts.

There is coming a judgement day for us all. Where will we find ourselves?

God’s Blessings
