Then and now
The faint sound of a train whistle fills the air as I write this post. A sound that reminds me of childhood times. Nostalgia has won out, so here I go.
We all have childhood memories that spark emotions, whether good or bad. One of my favorites was playing outside with neighborhood kids. I had two sisters, which I adore. We played a lot of make up games -house, bank, work, gas station and so on.
Mama carried us to church every Sunday morning as children. When we got out, we generally went to Ma’s house for lunch. After lunch, we ran the neighborhood, picked pomegranates from a neighbors tree, took a play break and devoured them.
When we came home, I begged my sisters to play church with me. They had to be the congregation and I was the “preacher.” LOL I loved the Word of God even as a young child of six or so years of age.
Too young to recognize His calling on my life (or just not in tune), life continued. After many paths, I came to the “knowledge of truth.” (I Tim 2:4). The Bible promises that the Spirit of Truth (Jesus) will guide us to all truth in John 16:13.
Once I found the way to true, delivering salvation in Acts 2:38 my life changed forever:
”Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
Oh I did! I am so glad I did. So many people have yet to come to the knowledge of truth, and our jobs as Christians and ministers is to pray for the lost and “saved” alike. Tradition is hard to break, BUT GOD, can break any and all chains that bind us.
I still love the outdoors, pomegranates, and running around the neighborhood. I just do it a little differently now. Sharing the Word of God with neighbors, family and old time friends.
Thank God for the train whistle, I enjoyed my visit to back then, but thank the Lord for my present He gave me today.
Please share some of your most favorite childhood memories or testimony in the comment section of the blog.
God’s Blessings to you all.
see you around the path ~Debra
